How to Bring Back OLD Steam UI and Look?
As we all know, Steam recently introduced a brand-new Steam UI (User Interface) update that has changed the look and feel of the platform. While some users appreciate the updated design, others may find it hard to adjust, especially if they were comfortable with the older version of Steam’s interface.
The Steam UI update didn’t just change the menu, downloads, and store sections—it also made major updates to the in-game overlay. This has been especially frustrating for long-time Steam users who have gotten used to the previous layout.
If you would like to switch back to the old Steam UI but still want to receive future updates, this guide is here to help. Just follow the steps below to restore the previous Steam interface.
Before you start, make sure Steam and all its background processes are completely closed.
To bring back the old Steam UI, you’ll need to add a launch parameter to the Steam shortcut on your desktop or Start Menu. Launch parameters let you start programs with customized settings. In this case, we’ll be adding -vgui to the shortcut’s target field. This tells Steam to load the older interface when you open it.
- Click the Start Menu and search for Steam.
- Right-click Steam and select Open file location. This will open the folder where your Steam shortcuts are found.
- In this folder, right-click the Steam shortcut and select Properties.
- At the end of the “Target” field, type -vgui. Then click Apply and OK.
- Now, launch Steam as you normally would.
