Why is my Blink’s ‘Sync Module Offline’ & How to Fix it
The “Sync Module Offline” message from Blink shows up when your cameras stop working, can’t show live video, or don’t send motion alerts. This means the Sync Module can’t connect to the Blink servers, so it’s not working with the cloud anymore.

With the Blink Sync Module, monitoring your home or any other location remotely becomes simple. The system lets you get motion alerts and review video recordings directly from your app, giving you extra security and peace of mind. However, if the sync module goes offline, these features won’t work until the connection is restored.
Before you start troubleshooting, make sure:
- Your internet connection is working.
- Blink servers are online; check their status.
If both your internet and the Blink servers are working, try the solutions below.
1. Restart the Sync Module and Router
If the Sync Module is unable to communicate properly with your router, it can go offline. This often happens due to temporary errors. Restarting both the Sync Module and the router usually solves the issue.
1.1. Restart the Router
- Turn off the router and unplug its power cable.
Unplug the Power Cable of the Router - Wait for a full minute, then plug the power cable back in.
- Turn the router back on and check if the Blink Sync Module comes online.
1.2. Restart the Sync Module
- Unplug the power cord from your Sync Module and wait for 10 seconds.
Unplug the Power Cable of the Blink Sync Module - Plug the power cable back in and see if the issue is fixed.
- If it’s still not working, unplug the Sync Module again and also power off your router.
- Unplug the router’s power cable and wait for a minute.
- Plug the router back in and turn it on.
- Wait until the router is powered on, then reconnect the Sync Module’s power cable and check if everything works.
If you travel often, consider using a smart plug to control power to your router and Sync Module. This makes rebooting them remotely quick and easy. Also, Blink Support can sometimes remotely restart your Sync Module if you’re not at home.
2. Try Another Power Source
Insufficient power from the outlet or a faulty power cable can make the Sync Module turn on and off, causing it to go offline. Sometimes, even after power is restored, these devices have trouble reconnecting unless the router is restarted.
You can solve this by using another power source or a different cable.
- Unplug the Sync Module from its current outlet.
- Plug it into a different power outlet using a different (preferably original) power cable. Avoid using a surge protector or extension while testing.
Connect the Blink Sync Module to Another Power Source - Check to see if this fixes the problem and if the module stays online.
3. Disconnect Devices from the Network
If another device on your network is malfunctioning or causing interference, it can cut off the Sync Module’s connection. This might cause the Wi-Fi to slow down or the Sync Module to go offline altogether. Disconnecting such devices often solves the issue.
Echo Dots, for example, are known to sometimes cause these problems.
- Disconnect all other devices from your network, leaving only the Sync Module connected.
Disconnect Eco Dot from the Network - Check if the Sync Module now works properly and stays online.
- If it works, reconnect your other devices one at a time, starting with the most important.
- Watch for any device that causes the Sync Module to go offline when it reconnects.
- If you find a problematic device, look for help specific to that device or contact support.
4. Disable Mobile Data on the Phone
Sometimes, when adding the Sync Module to the Blink app, your phone may switch to mobile data if your Wi-Fi signal is weak. This can break the setup process and cause the module to appear offline.
Turning off your phone’s mobile data to force it to use Wi-Fi can solve the problem.
- Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Internet.
Open Internet in the Android Phone Settings - Tap Settings next to your service provider (like Airtel), then turn off Mobile Data.
Disable Mobile Data in the Android Phone Settings - Open the Blink app and check if your Sync Module connects successfully.
5. Enable Local Network Access for the Blink App (iOS Only)
On iPhones and iPads, the Blink app needs permission to use your local network. If this isn’t enabled, the app can’t communicate with the Sync Module, which makes the module appear offline.
- Go to Settings > Privacy > Local Network.
Open Local Network in the iPhone’s Privacy Settings - Find Blink in the app list and turn on the switch. Check if the Sync Module is now online.
6. Enable 2.4 GHz Band on the Router
For the most reliable connection, the Blink Sync Module should use the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi band. Many smart devices—including Blink products—don’t work well with 5 GHz networks, which can cause them to show as offline.
- Go to your router’s admin portal and open Settings > Wireless Settings.
- Turn on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and, if needed, turn off 5 GHz.
Enable 2.4 GHz in the Router Settings - Save your changes and restart the router.
- Re-connect your Sync Module to the 2.4 GHz network. Check if it stays online.
7. Re-add the Sync Module to the Blink App
If your Blink app’s settings no longer match your Sync Module—maybe after a network change—the app might show the module as offline. Removing and then re-adding the Sync Module to the app can refresh these settings.
- Open the Blink app and go to the system with your Sync Module.
- Select the Sync Module and tap Delete Sync Module.
Delete Sync Module in the Blink App - Scan the displayed QR code to remove the module. (Don’t worry—any previously connected cameras will also be re-added when you re-add the Sync Module!)
- Go to the Blink app’s Home screen and tap the plus icon.
- Select Sync Module and scan the QR code with your phone’s camera.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to finish. See if this resolves the offline problem.
8. Rename SSID or Enable Guest Wi-Fi
If your Sync Module’s saved Wi-Fi settings are incorrect or outdated, it won’t connect properly. Changing your Wi-Fi network name (SSID) or using the Guest Wi-Fi feature on your router can force the module to reconnect with fresh settings.
8.1. Rename SSID
- Log in to your router’s admin portal and go to Settings > Wireless Settings.
- Change your Wireless Network Name (SSID) and save.
Rename SSID in the Router Settings - Restart your router and connect the Sync Module to the new network name. Check if it is now online.
8.2. Enable Guest Wi-Fi
- Open your router settings and go to More Functions > Wi-Fi Settings > Guest Wi-Fi.
Enable Guest Wi-Fi in the Router Settings - Enable Guest Wi-Fi and fill out any required details.
- Connect your Sync Module to the Guest Wi-Fi and see if the offline problem is fixed.
9. Reset the Router and Sync Module
A damaged or corrupted firmware on either your router or the Sync Module can prevent a good connection. Resetting both devices to their factory settings usually clears up such problems.
9.1. Reset the Router
Before you reset, make sure you have your Wi-Fi name (SSID), password, and any special settings written down, as you’ll need these to set up your router again.
- Find the reset button on your router (usually on the back or bottom).
- Use a pin or paperclip to press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds.
Reset the Router to the Factory Defaults - Wait for the router to restart (usually about 30 seconds), then release the button.
- Set up your router again with your saved settings and check if the Sync Module comes online.
9.2. Reset the Sync Module
Resetting the Sync Module will erase any data on a connected USB drive, so back up anything important first.
- Disarm your system and safely remove the USB drive from the module.
- Use the Blink app to delete the Sync Module from your system (as discussed earlier).
- Unplug the Sync Module’s power cord.
- With a pin or paperclip, press and hold the module’s reset button (near the USB port).
Reset Button on the Blink Sync Module - While still holding the reset button, plug back the Sync Module’s power cable.
- Release the button when you see a red light (usually after about 20 seconds).
- Wait for the module to show a solid green and blinking blue light.
- Disable Mobile or Cellular Data on your phone. On iOS, also allow Local Network access for Blink.
- Open a website on your phone or computer to ensure your internet works.
- Open the Blink app, tap the plus icon, and select Sync Module. When prompted, scan the module’s QR code.
- Follow the steps shown to add it back and reinsert the USB drive if needed. The module will update its firmware if necessary when re-added.
